A super-sized football appeared across the stands, placing the game itself at the centre of the opening celebration. The display then moved into a storytelling sequence featuring two Arab boys playing football — a scene connecting childhood dreams with heritage and the future of the sport.
Presented through thousands of lights among the spectators, the story took on a shared dimension. The crowd became the surface on which it unfolded, bringing a familiar love of football into the ceremony’s grand visual design.
The Audience Becomes the Stage
Each Apollo light formed a pixel in the larger picture. Through stadium-scale pixel mapping and synchronised wireless control, 12,000 light points worked together to carry imagery across the seating.
This extended the ceremony’s visual space into the stands. Spectators became part of the scene they were watching, with the football story surrounding them and connecting different sections of the stadium in one display.
